Maggi crackdown: Will it improve food safety?
The controversy around Maggi noodles refuses to settle down. Today, the Delhi government decided to ban the sale of Maggi noodles for 15 days and has asked Nestle India to recall its stocks saying sales will only resume after checks on future batches. As more and more states send batches of the popular fast food to test for lead and monosodium glutamate or MSG beyond permissible limits, Delhi has taken a step further saying all noodle brands will be tested. West Bengal has decided to test Lays potato chips as well as Kurkure. But this is not the first instance of complaints against the mega food manufacturer, it's not that India doesn't have food safety laws in place but who is implementing them?

Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif makes a provocative statement, calling Kashmir the "unfinished agenda" of Partition. Some may see the statement in itself as a routine attempt by Islamabad to ratchet up the rhetoric, but the fact that it rears its head every few months, we ask: is there a hardening of stances in Pakistan that makes dialogue difficult at the moment?
