A sacred event for Hindus, the Maha Kumbh is set to start on Monday, and will run till February 26, with devotees from across India and beyond lining up to take a holy dip at the confluence of three sacred rivers - the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the mythical, invisible Saraswati. The mega event is expected to draw in 45 crore devotees at the six-week Hindu festival. A central part of the rituals is bathing in the holy rivers. On the most auspicious dates, it is known as Shahi Snan, or "royal bath". Hindus believe that those who immerse themselves in the waters cleanse themselves of sin, breaking free from the cycle of rebirth and ultimately attaining salvation.
