In a surprising move, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar took oath as Deputy Chief Minister in the Eknath Shinde-led government with eight other party leaders on Sunday. A few hours later, angry NCP workers smeared black paint on the photos of party leaders who joined the NDA Government of Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar has claimed to have the backing of more than 40 MLAs in Vidhan Sabha and more than 6 MLCs in Vidhan Parishad. Sharply reacting to his nephew's decision, Sharad Pawar called the recent political development "robbery". Meanwhile, party chief Sharad Pawar has convened party meeting on Wednesday in Mumbai to discuss developments and future courses of action.
