While thousands of teachers are taking the mandatory eligibility tests in Maharashtra, their performance paint a dismal scene, with just over 2 per cent of the candidates passing their exams each year. Zero per cent in Sanskrit, just over 2 per cent in English, a shocking one and a half per cent in History, less than one per cent in Sociology; this is the pass percentage, not of students but teachers, both current and aspiring who want to teach in Maharashtra's schools and colleges.
