India's manufacturing sector is under threat and this time concerns go beyond the rupee. At 16.3 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) the share of manufacturing in 2006-07 was still below the 16.7 per cent level of 1990-01. The six core infrastructure industries fell to 5.3 per cent in November 2007 from 9.6 per cent a year ago.
