Marital Rape: 'Culture' Over Consent?
The Delhi High Court is hearing a cluster of petitions and counter-petitions on the issue of marital rape. While one side led by non-profits RIT Foundation and AIDWA is asking the court to declare marital rape a crime, the opposing party led by another non-profit Men's Welfare Trust is against the idea representing fears that the law could be misused. The government's stand is that criminalising marital rape may lead to "destabilisation of marriages". On this edition of We The People, we ask: What is more important, tradition or women's rights?
