Youth for India fellows have observed that the institutional setup for self-governance fails at different levels - in some cases, policies made at a central level might not take into consideration ground realities thereby excluding communities who are at the periphery of the nation's growth story; in other cases individuals who are expected to play an active role in these institutions are unaware of what they are expected to do and what their duties and responsibilities are; in some cases, a community or a whole generation might have to pay for the corrupt practices of certain individuals. It is this realisation that makes it necessary to focus attention on improving the governance mechanism in the country. This is in alignment with the vision of Mahatma Gandhi to make every village of India a self-governing entity.
