Meerut: Britons trace revolt of 1857
On the May 10, 1857 a great revolt was sparked off in Meerut. The nationalist termed it India's first war of independence, however the British historians preferred to call it sepoy mutiny. The most severe outburst of discontent against the British Empire was heard in Mangal Pandey's battle cries.
