In the 'Meet Our MPs' series, NDTV spoke to Trinamool Congress MP June Maliah. Her Lok Sabha constituency is Medinipur. "I have been with Mamata ji since 2009. I am an actor by profession. In 2021 she offered me a ticket for the assembly election, and I won that election," Ms Maliah said. "And then last year she told me that I have to fight the Lok Sabha election against Dilip Ghosh. We all know who he is, needs no introduction... First of all I didn't know I would become an MLA, and then she (Mamata Banerjee) asked me to fight this huge election, the mother of all elections. I was a little surprised, but I agreed as we have to recover the seat. Didi was very kind to let me contest the election," she said.
