In today's episode of India Global, Big Tech is on trial, and at the centre of it all: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, defending the empire he built.
On the stand in a Washington courtroom, Zuckerberg pushed back against explosive allegations from the Federal Trade Commission-claims that Meta's acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp were not innovation, but domination. If the FTC succeeds, it could dismantle Meta's crown jewels-and half its ad revenue. Instagram alone is forecasted to earn $37 billion this year. Zuckerberg argued the landscape has changed. TikTok, YouTube, Apple-they're the real rivals now, he says. But the FTC says Meta still controls the spaces where we connect with friends and family-and that control is illegal. As Trump's White House eyes Big Tech, the future of Meta-and digital communication itself-hangs in the balance. NDTV's Gaurie Dwivedi speaks with Global Consumer Tech Reporter Ivan Mehta and Founder, Muonium AI Senthil Nayagam to discuss this and more.
