More Compensation = More Suicides, Suggests Karnataka Minister

Karnataka textiles minister Shivanand Patil's statement that farmers are dying by suicide to get compensation has teed off a huge controversy. "I want to ask media too, they know that if they file a complaint as suicide only then compensation is given. Media should wait till forensic report comes. Until Veeresh report came in, suicides were less. Once it was stated in 2015 that Rs 5 lakh compensation will be paid since then suicide deaths are being reported more," the minister said.
