More govt revenue by diesel price hike, than duty on diesel vehicles: Auto body
S Sandilya, President of SIAM and Deepak Jain, AVP of Sharekhan speak to NDTV about a possible duty hike for diesel vehicles. S Sandilya says that it does not make sense as only 1 per cent of total diesel is consumed by private cars, whereas 6 per cent is consumed by diesel generator sets used by the affluent. "Even a Re 1 hike in diesel will lead to Rs 8000 cr additional revenue from across sectors," he says.
