Under fire for failing to control communal violence and targeted attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, Chief Advisor to the Interim Government in Bangladesh made a pitch for communal harmony highlighting the culture that existed in Bangladesh. The event was also attended by the Army Chief of Bangladesh who had earlier acknowledged that there is a serious problem in his country with a rapidly worsening law and order situation. The Army Chief shared the stage with the Chief Advisor. The event was organised by the Bangladesh Buddhist Federation to mark the foundation stone laying ceremony of Sampriti Bhavan. Yunus also broke into the dialect spoken in Chittagong, which has huge Buddhist population as well. The army chief was seen smiling several times as Yunus spoke in the Chittagong dialect. The Bangladesh Army Chief also reiterated a message of communal unity and harmony at the event and called for peace in the country according to the teachings of Lord Buddha.
