Mumbai civic polls: Will independents make an impact?
An unprecedented number of candidates from civil society, about 80 of them, are in the fray for the municipal elections in Mumbai. From lawyers to former Naval captains to even taxi drivers, all hoping they will turn the apple cart in their favour - a phenomenon that's has never happened before, perhaps anywhere in the country. And the message to political parties from these groups seems to be loud and clear: politicians have failed to bring a systemic change.
