The activity at Mumbai's only genome sequencing laboratory has picked up amid concerns over a new variant of coronavirus, Omicron, which was first detected in South Africa. Mumbai has alerted healthcare staff and the laboratory is functioning at full capacity to detect the new variant among samples found positive, especially from those arriving from countries at risk.
