The mutant coronavirus detected in the UK is a warning to India to step up not just RT-PCR testing but also have regular protocol of genome sequencing and surveillance, so that harmful strains can be identified early and limited, says Dr Rakesh Mishra, director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, in an exclusive interview to NDTV's Uma Sudhir. Dr Mishra says thousands of mutations may be detected but only a few become significant and even dangerous. And the latest is not going to affect prospects of efficacy of vaccines.
