As an eerie calm prevails over Muzaffarnagar, fresh clashes in adjoining areas suggest that communal tensions continue to simmer following the deadly clashes that lashed the western Uttar Pradesh town over the weekend. Firing was reported between two communities in Kirthal village of Baghpat district on Wednesday after police tried to conduct a peace meeting. The mobs soon started pelting stones at the cops, leaving a constable injured. As the violence threatened to spiral out of control, police reinforcements along with teams of Rapid Action Force were immediately rushed to the area. Police recovered cartridges of an AK 47 as well as a pistol during raids conducted in the area.
