Nagawani moved to India in 1990 when Sri Lanka was going through the civil war. After the civil war ended, her family decided to return to Sri Lanka. From the citizens of Sri Lanka to now the refugees, their life had completely changed. They had no idea from where to start rebuilding their life. Nagwani decided to help her father and she took the support of Usha Silai School programme. Finamcially independent, she got married in a refugee camp. Her husband is a house painter. With the income earned through stitching she gifted him a gold ring during their wedding.
