NASA Downplays Role In Development Of Titan Submersible

Stockton Rush, co-founder of OceanGate, claimed that the carbon fiber hull of the Titan submersible was developed with significant assistance from NASA. However, NASA materials engineer Justin Jackson testified that the agency's involvement was minimal, limited to remote consultations during early design stages due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jackson noted that NASA even declined to endorse OceanGate's communications, fearing misrepresentation. Rush was among five who died when the submersible imploded in June 2023, prompting ongoing investigations into the company's practices and the design of the Titan.
