On the border of Jharkhand and Odisha is the remote village of Uperbeda in Mayurbhanj district. It is from these humble beginnings that Droupadi Murmu began her journey. A journey that could well take her to the highest office in the country. From the backward Santhal tribe, Draupadi Murmu forged a successful career in politics. She was two-time MLA and the Governor of Jharkhand before becoming the NDA's candidate for President. In her small village, there is a sense of pride in the woman who stands out today as a symbol of empowerment. Harsha Kumari Singh travelled to Uperbeda to Ms Murmu's ancestral home.
