The NDA has sought to liberalise the contract labour system in the country through labour codes introduced in Parliament. Labour Ministry on Sunday re-introduced three key labour bills - the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, the Industrial Relations Code, and the Code on Social Security. This gives companies a free hand to hire such workers, along with an easier licensing regime. The changes in industrial laws aim at allowing full freedom to factories of up to 300 employees to hire and fire workers without seeking any statutory permission. Until now, this was possible only for factories with up to 100 workers. However, the rights of the trade union to go on a lightning strike is sought to be curtailed heavily.
