New Criminal Laws Take Effect: Amid Shah Refutes Opposition's No Discussion Charge

The three new criminal laws have come into force from today, replacing the colonial-era Indian penal code, the criminal procedure code and the Indian Evidence Act. While several opposition parties claimed that the new laws were enforced in a hurried manner, without sufficient consultation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah refuted the charge, retorting that it was the opposition which did not want to participate.
