NIA Bill Passed In Lok Sabha: War On Terror Or Sweeping Powers?
A fresh conflict point arose in Parliament today when the government moved the National Investigation Agency amendment bill. A combative home minister Amit Shah felt that this is the need of the hour to correct the "historical wrong" UPA committed by repealing POTA - a Vajpayee era anti-terror law. The NIA amendment bill gives powers to a police officer to investigate across the country, investigate a number of cases not directly or overtly acts of terror and even investigate outside India. The opposition says that these are sweeping powers in the hands of a centralised agency and an assault on the federal structure. On today's show we discuss police state charge vs war on terror.
