Swati Maliwal Case: Amid heated political slugfest sparked by the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal by the Delhi CM's close aide, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on May 17 went all guns blazing on Arvind Kejriwal. Berating Kejriwal as "shameless", FM Sitharaman lampooned the Delhi CM for evading question related to Swati Maliwal's alleged assault case.
Addressing the press, he said, "It is unacceptable that he is still silent on the incident. The chif Minister who used to speak highly on women's issue is now remaining silent. He should come forward and apologize. He shamelessly roaming around with Bibhav Kumar. There is a limit to shamelessness. When Press was asking questions about the incident in Lucknow, he got scared and shamelessly avoided the question and passed the mike." Notably, The Delhi police filed an FIR in connection with the alleged assault on May 16 evening, naming the Delhi CM's personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar. The Civil Lines Police registered a case under sections 354, 506, 509, and 323, among other IPC sections, for offence including assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation, word gesture or acts of intent to insult, and assault.
