In 1984, after Indira Gandhi's assassination by her Sikh bodyguards, violence broke out in Delhi and nearby areas against the Sikh community. They were burnt alive, their houses and shops reduced to ashes, and tyres put around human beings before being set alight. Women were raped and thousands of people were murdered on the streets. It was a genocide like India had never seen before that. Since then, former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh has apologised, Sonia Gandhi has apologised, however, now, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has said that his party wasn't responsible.
