I would never insult India abroad or at home, the Prime Minister told some of his cabinet colleagues at a meeting on Wednesday. Narendra Modi's remarks came amid growing protests from the opposition that he had insulted India on his foreign tour by saying that there was a time that people wondered why they had been punished by being born in India. Speaking on NDTV's Townhall, senior Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the issue was brought up by a colleague at the ministers’ meeting, and the PM said his comments were about economic opportunity and entrenched corruption, comments he argued had been distorted by the media. Mr Gadkari was responding to question from a young voter.
