In an exclusive interview, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti rules out any possibility of a post-poll alliance with the BJP, saying though she wants a good working relationship with Prime Minister Modi, but "bringing together two divergent forces to share power will not only discredit democracy in J&K, but also have a negative impact on the state." On a possible understanding between separatist-turned-politician Sajad Lone and the BJP, she says that they both can cozy up but gone are the days when the chief minister of J&K was decided by New Delhi. On India-Pakistan ties, she says Mr Modi should learn from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was able to think out of the box and had said that one can change friends, not neighbours.
