A story that impacts many lives - in almost all north Indian cities, drunk driving, drinking inside the car, casteist and objectionable remarks written on the number plate, driving on the wrong side of the road, illegal parking, encroachment, are common problems. Apart from being a public nuisance, it makes our roads and streets extremely unsafe for women. For the past 10 days, the city police in Noida, a city right next to Delhi, has started what they call operation clean. They claim this is a ruthless crackdown against VVIP goons and they are publicly naming and shaming the culprits on Twitter. This has become a huge talking point on social media whether it is a good step. Coming in a little late but still a good one, and should it be a sustained effort and not be relegated as a PR exercise?
