The nomination deadline for the Maharashtra Assembly election ended today. With key political adversaries, the Maha vikas Aghadi and the Mahayuti, final differences over seat allocation remained unresolved till the last few hours. There were key seats where there were no candidates, and in some multiple seats, there was more than one staking claim. It is a high-stakes election in perhaps the most economically significant state of the country, and there is much to prove, for each of the six parties. For the BJP, it has to be a validation that 2024 Lok Sabha setback in the state. For the Sena factions, it is the fight for legacy, legitimacy and power, and for the NCP, it is about who will chart the course for future for the party.
