A railway expert has called the three-train crash a "unique accident". "It's a unique accident. Normally, derailment happens and that's about it. In this case, derailment happened and within minutes the bogies were hit by another train," said TS Ramakrishnan. The crash involved the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train. The accident saw one train ram so hard into another that carriages were lifted high into the air, twisting and then smashing off the tracks.
