Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir polls, National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has stirred up a hornet's nest. He questioned the execution of convicted terrorist Afzal Guru. In an interview with a news agency, Omar Abdullah stated, "I don't believe any purpose was served by executing Afzal Guru." Afzal Guru was one of the main conspirators in the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. He was hanged in February 2013 at Tihar Jail after being convicted for his role in the terror attack, which left nine people dead.
