India has inched one step closer towards one nation one election with a cabinet nod to the proposal today. Sources say the bill for holding simultaneous polls may be introduced as early as the upcoming winter session. This comes after the report of the high-level committee, which was headed by former president Ram Nath Kovind, was placed before the Union Cabinet. While the government is pitching this as a move to strengthen democracy, the opposition is calling it a poll-related gimmick.
