Forty-year-old Vinita does a quick price check at a wholesale mandi and decides to skip the onions. At 30 rupees a kilo this basic vegetable has turned into a luxury for this housewife and her family of five. "Onion prices have increased so much so that I have stopped eating onions. I make food without onions. The children don't like it, so even if I use it, I use very less," said Vinita, Housewife.
