Only 40 per cent births documented in India
A piece of paper is the only proof Naimunissa has of her daughter's birth. Jainab was born at home in a village in Bihar. A few months later her parents migrated to Mumbai in search of work. "This is all that I was given in my village, this piece of paper with her birth details. But no school will take her in. They want us to pay Rs 4,000 and get a proper record but we cannot afford to pay that much," says Naimunissa.
