OTT Content Under Supreme Court Lens: Censorship Vs Freedom

Once again, OTT platforms are facing intense scrutiny. Concerns are mounting over the kind of explicit and obscene content freely available online, with allegations even suggesting that child pornography is being circulated. The matter has reached the supreme court. Hearing a petition that calls for tighter regulations on online content, the top court has sought a response from leading OTT platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, and AltBalaji. The Top Court has clearly indicated that the Centre must step in to regulate obscene content being streamed to millions of users across the country. In response, the Central government has informed the court that additional regulations for OTT platforms are under serious consideration. This has ignited a nationwide debate: Is it time for censorship on OTT platforms? Should the OTT platforms be held accountable with self-regulation? Can a balance be struck between creative freedom and responsible content dissemination?
