A Papua New Guinea government official told the UN that over 2,000 people are believed to have been buried alive in Friday's landslide that hit the Enga province. The remains of only six people have been recovered so far. Papua New Guinea's neighbor Australia is set to send aircraft and other heavy equipment to help with the rescue at the site of the landslide-hit area and Defense Minister Richard Marles said that Australia will continue to work closely with the Papua New Guinean government to provide aid. Meanwhile, in an X post earlier today, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar expressed grief over the lives lost and stressed that India stands in solidarity with its friends.
