The price of tomatoes has been on the rise in Rajasthan, with some vendors selling the kitchen staple at Rs 100 per kilogramme in vegetable markets in Jaipur. The situation, however, is helping neither the vendors nor the consumers.
According to wholesalers, a kilo of tomatoes was selling for Rs 15 to Rs 20 a month ago. However, several factors including unfavourable weather resulting in low supply and increased transportation costs have contributed to the price hike.
