Professor Sir Peter Ratcliffe, a Nobel Laureate, spoke exclusively to NDTV's Prannoy Roy on the study of Hypoxia and how it can reduce the need for ventilators. He said that some COVID patients are being put on ventilators very early on, and that it would be possible to use a drug to improve the 'matching profusion' of the lung with ventilation. Mr Ratcliffe also said that Almitrine - a drug that is produced by a French Company for the treatment for lung diseases - can be used to treat patients but the drug has been discontinued. Trials should also be conducted to prove the efficacy of the drug.
