Planning Commission slams PDS
A damning report by the Planning Commission has termed the Public Distribution Scheme (PDS) as uneconomical and poorly administered. The report points out that nearly 37 per cent of foodgrain is diverted by fair price shops. In 16 of the mostly north Indian states, 66 per cent of foodgrain, meant for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category, does not actually get there.
