Sumitra Mahajan, chairperson, parliamentary standing committee, rural development, Panchayati Raj, says that there are two aspects when land is acquired—acquisition and purchase. In the recommendation, the panel has asked why the government should acquire land for private industries. She says the government can facilitate the acquisition, but not acquire.
