Thousands of volunteers and mostly young Indians picked up the broom to join clean-up drives in hundreds of locations across India. Several Union ministers like Prakash Javadekar, the Minister of Human Resource Development, Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Urban Development and Suresh Prabhu, the Railway Minister alongwith many Chief Ministers lent their support to the NDTV-Dettol Banega Swachh India Cleanathon. Various artists like Pandit Jasraj, Jassi, Harshdeep Kaur and Ganesh Acharya, joined the initiative to raise awareness on the importance of Swachh India and how to achieve that ambition. Well known personalities like Dia Mirza, Gul Panag, Tisca Chopra, Kabir Bedi and the Paralympic Silver Medalist Deepa Malik, too joined Amitabh Bachchan and Vikram Chandra on the stage to share their concerns and ideas for Clean India. The NDTV-Dettol Banega Swachh India campaign in its third year aimed to encourage people to embrace cleanliness as a personal agenda. The campaign also saw a lot of people, and children in particular, clean-up 10 yards of their surroundings as part of the #Mere10Guz initiative.
