Are we unfair to men in uniform?

Everytime there is a failure of law and order or any gruesome, horrific incident, it is the police force that has to bear the brunt of criticism. Whether it is firing in Kashmir by the BSF on protesters or excesses committed by special forces in Naxal areas and the alleged human rights violation by the Army in Northeast, it is the men in uniform who are always criticised, who are always subjected to intense media scrutiny and criticism by human rights group. But are we being unfair to these men, who guard our border and lay down their lives to protect us? Or are human rights groups justified in criticising the excesses that men in uniform are being accused of?

What about the kidnapping and subsequent brutal killing of Thangjam Manorama in Manipur? Why there hasn't been any proper investigations on the mass disappearance of youths in Jammu and Kashmir? What about the excesses that the police and other security agencies carried out to weed out terrorism in Punjab in the 80s and naxalism in West Bengal during the late 60s and 70s?
