West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared the 12-hour bandh called in Darjeeling by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) illegal and upgraded Army presence in the hills from two columns last evening to eight this morning (each column has about 40 personnel) to ensure the situation remains under control. The bandh continues till 6 pm today.
