Cabinet set to clear new land bill
The Union Cabinet is all set to clear the Land Acquisition Bill tomorrow. Rahul Gandhi, who championed the cause of the farmers and along with Sonia Gandhi's National Advisory Council had made some suggestions, some of which are in this bill. But one of the biggest demands of the NAC - giving farmers six times the market rate as compensation - has been watered down to four times the market rate.
