Four members of a family who have adopted Islam were arrested last night in Madhya Pradesh, hours after they told a court that they had not been forced into converting. Seven others have been held for questioning. Tularam, Manikram, Keshav and Makhubhai Jatav, who live in Shivpuri, were arrested on Wednesday under the Freedom of Religion Act, 1968, which mandates that those wanting to convert must apply to the district administration and can proceed only after it is verified that they are not being forced.
