Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress candidate from Assam's Jorhat, had famously said, "I am like Abhimanyu, who entered the Chakravyuh and died. But in this battle, I will break the Chakravyuh and come out victorious." True to his words, he won. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spent several nights and with several ministers, MLAs, and other leaders camped in the constituency for weeks. But Gaurav Gogoi won the prestige battle, defeating BJP's Topon Gogoi by a substantial margin. It is the first time that the two-time MP contested this seat.
