At least 121 people - mostly women - have been killed in a stampede at a "Satsang" in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras. Lakhs had gathered for the Satsang by a self-styled godman - "Bhole Baba". Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the stampede site today and ordered an SIT-level probe. In a briefing at Hathras, the Chief Minister said there were glaring lapses that had come to light and that the organisers "tried to cover up the incident". According to the FIR, the organisers sought permission for a gathering of 80,000-odd people. But a crowd of over 2.5 lakh turned up. Surprisingly, the godman has not been named in the FIR. As per sources, the godman is cooped up in his ashram in Mainpuri.
