On Desperate Migrant Journeys, Some Lives Changed Forever
As lakhs of migrant labourers were leaving Mumbai in desperation in whatever means of transport they can find, a group of labourers who left in a tempo on May 11 met with an accident just hours later on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway. Some simply did not make it home alive. Mohammed Javed Siddiqui, who spoke to NDTV on the journey, died, after his tempo toppled after being hit from behind by a speeding vehicle. He leaves behind two sons and a wife. His wife and son are not only coping with the loss of losing a loved one but also the stress of undergoing treatment. They have received help from actor Ajaz Khan.
