Saving a Lake, Losing a Home
The Karnataka state government is continuing its drive to clean up Bengaluru's water bodies and remove encroachments and illegal buildings from lake beds. The latest focus is Banaswadi Lake in the east of the city. And while that sounds like a worthy project - it also means heartache and anger for hundreds of people who bought land, built homes, paid property taxes - and never dreamt that their houses were illegal and in line for demolition.
