Smriti Irani dares Rahul Gandhi for debate: Amethi battle spills over?
Twitter became the battleground on Friday for Human Resource Development minister Smriti Irani to take on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi. She has launched her campaign against him on his home turf of Amethi - where she fought and lost the last general election - on what she says is his and the Congress party's inability to deliver on its electoral promises, or even look after his constituency as an MP. Now, as the controversy rages over IIT Madras' decision to ban a student body critical of the Modi government, the existing battlelines hardened on Twitter. Ms Irani has challenged Rahul Gandhi to an open debate. As Rahul Gandhi tweeted saying the Congress would fight any attempt to crush dissent and debate, she responded, challenging him to a public debate on everything from good governance to education.
